    Moyá parecía algo cansado luego de la dura jornada del sábado, cuando jugó más de dos horas y media para derrotar a Nicolás Lapentti en la semifinal por 6-2, 3-6 y 7-6. En cambio, Almagro, llegó a la final más descansado, pues venció en la otra semifinal al italiano Fabio Fognini por 6-1 y 6-1.

    David Nalbandian y José Acasuso le ganaron por 6-2, 7-6 y 6-0 a Jamie Murray y Ross Hutchins. De esta forma, la Argentina clasificó nuevamente para jugar los cuartos de final de la Copa Davis.

    La lluvia obligó a interrumpir el partido en el que Nalbandian y Acasuso se imponían por 6-2, 7-6 (13-11), 2-0 y ventaja con el saque ante los británicos Murray y Hutchins. Luego de 40 minutos de espera el partido continuó y rápidamente los argentinos  pudieron definir el set, el partido y la serie, por la ronda inicial del Grupo mundial de Copa Davis.

    Uruguay, a pesar de ganar ayer ayer un partido de single y el doble, quedando 2 a 1 adelante de Colombia y a un triunfo de cerrar el enfrentamiento de avanzar en la zona americana, grupo I, los colombianos fueron mas en los dos singles finales y se llevaron la victoria final ante los “charruas“, ayer, los triunfos en la jornada del Cantegrill Country Club llegaron con Cuevas y Felder en el doble.

    En un partido típico de Copa Davis, con un triunfo que será recordado por varios años, por el tiempo de juego de 7 horas y media, ya que hubo innumerables cortes por la lluvia Pablo Cuevas venció en el segundo cotejo a Santiago Giraldo por 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 7-6 (6) y 6-4, luego de levantar cuatro match points en contra y colocar la serie 1 a 1.

    Uruguayos y colombianos, deberán lucir en sus remeras el nombre de sus países en la espalda tal como sucede en el grupo mundial.

    El horario de los partidos será vespertino comenzando las jornadas a la hora
16:00 destacándose que la ceremonia inaugural será el viernes a las 15:30.
La entradas se venden  en el Cantegril Country Club, y los precios son los siguientes: entradas generales diarias $ 200, abonos $ 400, preferenciales diarias $ 300 y abonos $ 600. Los menores de 12 años, gratis.

    Uruguay: Pablo Cuevas, Marcel Felder, Martín Vilarrubí y Federico Sansonetti,
capitán José Luis Damián.

    Argentina en busca del grupo mundial

    Jorgelina Cravero logró la clasificación Argentina ante Austria por 4 a 1. Ahora el equipo dirigido por Ricardo Rivera puede jugar contra los mejores elencos del mundo. Antes, María Emlia Salerni había ganado a Patricia Mayr.

    La serie se disputó en el Parque Roca de Buenos Aires y correspondió al Grupo Mundial II. En primer turno, Salerni derrotó a Mayr por 7-5, 3-6 y 6-2, mientras que Jorgelina Cravero superó por 6-4 y 6-4 a Melanie Klaffner.

    Luego Betina Jozami y María Irigoyen superaron a Yvonne Meusburguer y Barbara Schwartz por 6-1, 4-6 y 6-3 y así cerró la serie con un cómodo 4-1.

    Argentina ahora jugará el repechaje ante un perdedor del Grupo Mundial. Los posibles rivales son Israel, Italia y Alemania o Estados Unidos.

    Rusia sigue adelante en la Fed Cup

    Criticada hasta el cansancio por no defender los colores de Rusia en la Fed Cup, Sharapova aceptó la invitación y fue clave en el triunfo sobre Israel.

    Sharapova celebró en las cercanías de Tel Aviv su debut en Copa Fed con su país, condición imprescindible para representar a Rusia en los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín en agosto.

    Las otras series

    En Nápoles, Anabel Medina consiguió el triunfo definitivo que daba a España un ya inalcanzable 3-0 ante Italia y el pase a las semifinales de la Copa Fed.

    España se medirá por un puesto en la final a China, que alcanza las semifinales por primera vez en la historia de la Copa Fed tras haber derrotado a Francia en Pekín.

    Fernando Gonzalez obtuvo el ATP Viña del Mar

    El chileno protagonizó una improvisada final con el uruguayo Pablo Cuevas luego de que un esguince en un tobillo dejara fuera de la final del ATP de Viña del Mar al tenista argentino.

    La lesión sufrida por el argentino Juan Mónaco en un partido de dobles, llevó a González y a Pablo Cuevas, a una improvisada final tras el retiro de “Pico” del ATP de Viña del Mar.

    Fue un partido vibrante, peleado pero el máximo ídolo del tenis chileno logró quedarse por tercera vez en su carrera con el ATP jugado en su país. Sin embargo, antes de consagrarse necesitó más de tres horas para superar al duro uruguayo por 6-7 (4), 7-6 (6) y 6-2.
