    Nadal se consagra por quinta vez en Monte Carlo

    “Estos años tuve unos resultados exageradamente buenos. Que nunca me habría imaginado”, dijo Nadal luego de su victoria ayer en Monte Carlo.

    Nadal ya ha ganado 23 de sus 34 títulos profesionales sobre polvo de ladrillo, lo que lo ubica a los 22 años a mitad de camino del récord histórico del argentino Guillermo Vilas, con 45.

    El número uno del mundo ya levantó también los trofeos de Roland Garros,  Wimbledon y el Abierto de Australia, y acumula ya 14 títulos de Masters 1000, los mismos que el suizo Roger Federer y sólo por debajo del estadounidense Andre Agassi.

    “Tengo sólo 22 años, pero ya llevo un tiempo en el circuito. Este es mi séptimo año. Las cosas me han salido mucho mejor de lo que hubiera podido imaginar”, aseguró, tengo que dar gracias a la vida, que me ha dado la oportunidad de jugar al tenis, que es lo que me gusta, y destacar“, señaló.

    “Personalmente no pienso que haya cambiado nada entre ser el número dos y el número uno, pero soy consciente de lo difícil que es todo lo que estoy haciendo y que no durará para siempre“, finalizó Nadal.

    NADAL GANÓ NUEVAMENTE EL MONTECARLO MASTERS SERIES

    Rafael Nadal consiguió el cuarto Masters Series de Montecarlo consecutivo, luego  de imponerse a Roger Federer, por  7-5, 7-5, esta fue  la tercera temporada seguida en la que el español vence al suizo en la final del principado de Mónaco.

    Nadal consiguió su primer título de la temporada, nueve meses después de su último éxito en ATP de  Stuttgart, también en polvo de ladrillo.

    Fiel a la táctica que siempre ha empleado contra Federer, Nadal contrarrestó el revés del suizo con su gran golpe de derecha a izquierda, haciendo que el número uno cometiese 44 faltas, por sólo 20 del español.

    Sin embargo, Federer consiguió llegar a tener un 4-0 favorable en la segunda manga, antes de ceder siete de los últimos ocho juegos.

Por ese lado, quiero aprovechar esta gira, que no es la que más me gusta y que va a ser dura: Nadal está jugando bien de vuelta y es complicado en su cancha preferida. Estoy bien. Para tener buenos resultados.

–Usted es un argentino atípico: su familia y sus vecinos construyeron un par de pistas de cemento y ahí aprendió a jugar. Su padre pagaba sus clases con los bolsos que fabricaba en su taller. ¿Qué recuerda de aquello?

    –Era muy chico. Empezamos a jugar todos. La familia, los amigos… Pasábamos un rato bien, lindo. Y, de a poco, fui jugando bien, así como se empezó a hacer todo una bola. De chico, chico, no era consciente de los esfuerzos que hacían mis padres. Era algo divertido ir al club a pasar un rato bien. Luego, según fui creciendo, fui un poco más consciente. La verdad es que mi familia se sacrificó mucho. Estoy superagradecido por todo lo que hicieron en su momento. ¡Me acuerdo de cuando hicieron las canchas! Y ya sabés todo lo que hay que contar. Así que…

–¿Qué es lo que le hizo un tenista tan difícil para Nadal y Federer?

    –Pregúnteles a los otros, no a mí.

–Pero usted fue la bestia negra de Federer, ¿cuál es su receta?

    –La tengo en mi casa.

    –Al principio, buscas el tenis como un medio de vida. Hoy ya no juego tanto por el dinero, sino por lo que quiero ser en el deporte en sí. Las cosas, a medida que vas creciendo, van cambiando. Quiero ser un gran tenista, quedar en la historia del tenis. Eso sería increíble: que la gente me reconociese como un ídolo deportivo y también como persona.

–¿Cree que ya entró en la historia de este deporte?

    –En algunas cosas, sí, es muy difícil saber qué va a pasar en 10 años, cómo te van a recordar. Hay que aprovechar ahora para formar eso.

–¿Reconoce al tenista de finales de 2007 en el de inicios de 2008?

    –Entonces hice como una pretemporada antes del Abierto de Estados Unidos. Fue duro, pero fue bien. Ahora, salvo una dolencia en una pierna, estoy bien. Esta gira en polvo de ladrillo es la más dura y tengo que estar atento porque es importante para recuperar el terreno perdido a principios de año. No empecé bien la temporada. Estuve medio lesionado en Australia, en Indian Wells me pasó esto de la pierna… Tuve mala suerte.

    –Me gusta y me divierto, cada uno es diferente y disfruta las cosas a su forma. A mí me gustan los autos. Me gusta hacer eso y lo voy a seguir haciendo.      

–Es usted multimillonario. ¿Por qué seguir en Unquillo con su madre pudiendo elegir cualquier lugar del mundo?

    –Es un pueblo muy tranquilo, de 20 mil personas. Allí nací y me crié y allí sigo viviendo hoy. Para mí, volver allí es lo más lindo que hay. Me da tranquilidad. Es mi casa, mi tierra, donde tengo todos los recuerdos de mi niñez. Ahí lo paso muy bien. No me tienta ninguna otra ciudad para ir a vivir salvo ésa.
